Winter 2003

  • No school for Cottonwood students on President's Day, Monday 17 February. Other students in SCS have school.
  • Jay Majumdar won the Socorro County Spelling Bee and is on his way to the state competition. Good luck there! Jeremy Kemball came in Second. Congratulations.
  • Jay Majumdar took home first place in the 6th and 7th grade division for his science fair project comparing dimple depth in golf balls. He will advance to the Regional Science Fair in Las Cruces, March 15th. Second place winner Gaetano Stanzione, and third place winners Katrina Cotter, Og McCord and Sohaib Soliman will accompany Jay to Las Cruces. Good luck to you all.
  • Mileva Gacanich and Amy Brister sniffed their way into first place in the 4th and 5th grade division with their science project about individual scents. They gave five girls each a T-shirt and told them to wear it for five consecutive nights. At the end of the time period they put the shirts in plastic bags and had each of the girl's parent smell each bag to see if the parent could pick out his/her child's shirt. A smelly job, but a first place science project!
