June 2001
- Buildings Are Being Ordered Thanks to a lot of work
by President Mary Dwyer, the safety issues surrounding the old
hospital site have been cleared up to the satisfaction of the
School Board, the mayor, the fire chief, and others. At the meeting
on June 6, the council felt confident enough to vote to go ahead
and order the buildings. The process of leasing the buildings
is in progress.
- New Council Member Keith Elder is the newest council
member, replacing Dave Norman. Council member, Janet Palmer will
be moving in August and will be resigning soon. Her position will
need to be filled as soon as possible. If you or anyone you know
would like to serve on the council, please contact Mary Dwyer.

- Need Community Member There is still an opening for
a community member to serve on the governing council. This person
can not have a child enrolled at Cottonwood Valley and would represent
the community in regard to charter school issues. Interested parties
should contact Mary Dwyer.
- Enrollment Deadline Enrollment is at 129 right now.
There are still openings, but applications must be in by June
15th to be included in the next lottery. For enrollment forms,
contact Mary Dwyer.
- Teacher Search Interviews are on-going in the search
for teachers. Three applicants were recommended and approved at
the June 6, 2001 meeting. We also had a special meeting on June
11, 2001 to approve the forth recommendation from the Teacher
Search Committee. We will announce the names of the teachers after
they officially accept the positions.
- Administrator Search An offer has been made for an administrator
and we are waiting for her to accept.
- Releasing Names to District For various reasons, the
district needs to know the names of students enrolled at CVCS.
Permission is being requested from the parents and the names will
be released on Friday, June 15th. If you have not been contacted
regarding this, please call Mary Dwyer at 838-0914.
- Summer Reading List The Core Knowledge website has a
suggested summer reading list. It consists of many classics, such
as Mark Twain, Louisa May Alcott, Rudyard Kipling, etc. It¿s worth
a look. (www.coreknowledge.org)
- Next Meeting The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday,
June 20th at 7:30 p.m. at the Socorro Public Library.
