  • Facilties: The County Commission voted unanimously to approve our request to use the grounds of the old hospital located at the corner of Neel and Western. The City must now approve the site of our school. It is currently zoned commercial, but now we must go through the Zoning Board and then have the City Council approve it. This will require public hearings, notification of the neighbors, and time. The County is 100% behind us and we are now going through the zoning process with the City. We reviewed 2 modular-building plans and took comments from the parents We intend to use modular buildings that will be set up on the west side of the building, and we intend to completely secure the building. There will be a lot of landscaping and it will look very nice.
  • .Community Member: We are going to advertise this. We are looking for someone who can commit about 5 hours/week through the summer. The work load will decrease in the fall. This person needs to be interested in the youth of our community, but does not need to be a teacher or familiar with charter schools. They should contact Mary Dwyer at 838-0814 if they are interested.

  • Our great news this week is that the County Commission approved our request to use the old hospital grounds for our facilities. We will use the land to the west of the building and work with the County to either renovate or remove the building itself. This is a good site because of its central location, proximity to a public park and emergency medical care, and the fact that this lot is level and has electric, sewers, etc.
  • Another piece of good news: we were granted an additional $12,500 in state stimulus funds which will go towards our facilities. We have applied for $450,000 in federal stimulus funds over 3 years. If granted, this will provide us with the monies necessary to purchase everything from desks to science equipment
