August 2001
- Our ribbon cutting ceremony. Take a
look!
- Pictures from the first day of school.
- The new telephone number for the school is 838-2026
- School Is Now In Session Thanks to a lot of dedicated
people, Cottonwood Valley Charter School has completed its first
week of classes. After much confusion on Monday, things have slowly
been falling into place. In spite of the fact that they had no
classrooms, the teachers cheerfully maintained a learning atmosphere.
- We now have crosswalks and signs to make drops-offs
and pick-ups safe. It is imperative that these crosswalks be used
when arriving at or leaving the school. Children can be dropped
off after 7:30 a.m., not before. Thank you to the parents who
volunteered as crossing guards. We now need a regular volunteer
parent who is available to work as a crossing guard at the corner
of Western and Neel in the mornings, afternoons or both. If you
are interested in volunteering, please call Lara Wilburn at the
CVCS Business Office at 838-2026.
- Facilities All four buildings are now completely installed.
The sidewalks should be completed by Friday. The water is hooked
up and the electricity should also be completed by Friday. If
everything goes well, the classrooms will be ready Monday the
27th.
- Re-leaf Grant: Minda Stillings is putting together a
Re-leaf grant to help us landscape the property. She is a landscape
designer and is in the process of putting together a comprehensive
landscape plan for the school. She welcomes input from parents
regarding what types of plants and trees they would like, however,
she is going to use her expertise to determine what what would
be best for the type of soil and conditions at the school site.
Anyone with creative ideas should contact her as soon as possible,
as the grant must be submitted by August 28th. Those with any
particular allergies should contact her. Her number is 838-0711.
- Spanish: Sandra Gomez has been appointed as the Spansih
teacher and lessons have begun.
- Thank You: We want to thank Jim McCord and Guy MacElvain
of Hydrosphere for donating office space for us until our buildings
are completed. We also want to thank all the teachers and parent
volunteers who have persevered this first week to make our school
happen.
- Next Meeting The next governing council meeting will
be held on Wednesday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the public library
- Buster Marshall (busterm13@hotmail.com, 835-2875) is looking
for help with the monthly newletter. "I want to make the
newsletter a monthly forum for teachers, students and parents.
Teachers could inform parents of activities and achievements in
their individual classes. Students could showcase their work.
I would also like to put a calendar in each newsletter with all
the events of the month included". Buster is eagerly accepting
help from volunteers to help her to keep everyone connected and
informed.
