January 2012
- January 30: Congratulations to the CVCS Science Olympiad
team, who will be advancing to the statewide competition
following Saturday's regionals. Yay team!
December 2011
- December 15: The CVCS Holiday Social
will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the new multipurpose
building. The event will feature crafts, caroling, and family
fun, and the 8th grade will sell posole to raise money for their
class trip. Families may bring a plate of holiday treats to
share. See you there. Happy holidays!
- December 13-16: Please come to our
Scholastic "buy one get one free" Book
Fair in the school library. Lots of great
books will be available at great prices!
- December 1: Big congratulations go to Lynn
Planck (Kindergarten) for winning her category at the Socorro
County-wide declamation contest. Awesome!
November 2011
- November 18: Congratulations to Daisy Partey (3rd grade)
and Lynn Planck (Kindergarten) for their performance at the
Socorro district declamation contest. Daisy won first place in
the "serious" category, and Lynn earned third in "humorous".
Great job!
October 2011
- October 24: CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CVCS
B.E.S.T. ROBOTICS
TEAM! The team placed 4th overall at the New Mexico
B.E.S.T. competition in Las Cruces (out of 23 teams), and were
the highest-ranked middle school. Way to go!
- October 22: The CVCS B.E.S.T. Robotics team will be
competing at NMSU with about 25 other middle- and high-school
teams from around New Mexico. Since early September they have been
working on their robot and lots of documentation to go with
it. View their

September 2011
- Sept 30: CVCS School Dance, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Hosted
by the CVCS 7th grade as a fundraiser for UNICEF, the Socorro
Animal Shelter, and the school library. All CVCS students have
helped out with the decorations, and all CVCS families are
invited!
- Sept. 26: Congratulations to Jenna & Kacey Thunborg, winners
of the CVCS Cutest Pet contest! With 36 votes, the cutest pet at
CVCS is a horse! It was a close race between 18 cute cats,
kittens, dogs, puppies, a guinea pig, and a horse. Thank
you to all the entrants who brought pictures and to all of the
voters who paid a quarter to raise $32 for the Socorro
Animal Shelter!
- Sept. 26: Thanks to everyone who came to our Book Fair,
our library will receive $1100 in free books!
- Sept. 20-23: The annual Scholastic Book Fair will be
held in the CVCS library from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each
day. This is a fundraiser for our school; please come
to check out the books and support CVCS. Thank you!
- September 9: National Dance Institute performances!
CVCS 4th & 5th graders, Celebration team members, and some
teachers will participate in NDI this year. Please come see
them at the public performance at NMT Macey Center, 7:00 p.m.
August 2011
- August 11: Please join us for our annual Back-to-School
potluck, starting at 5:30 p.m. This is always a fun
event where families can get to know each other. This year
we will also have an additional orientation session starting
at 7:00 p.m. for those who are not able to come to the morning
one on the first day of school. Please bring a dish to share,
and plan to have a great time!
- August 9: School starts for CVCS.
Welcome to 2011-2012!
Please note that CVCS is starting a day earlier than the other
district schools. Classes will run from 8:15 a.m. to 11:00
a.m., with no bus or hot-lunch services. There will be a special
family orientation period for about 90 minutes in the morning.
All families should plan to come. If you cannot
attend on Tuesday morning, the orientation will be repeated
following the potluck on Thursday, August 11.
- The CVCS Dress
Policy has not changed this year.
- August 5-7: This will be a tax-free weekend for school
clothing and supplies.

July 2011
- If you haven't signed up for Smith's Earn & Learn program, please
do it soon! A percentage of your shopping spending is donated
by Smith's, at no cost to you. Our school has received more
than $15,000 in past years, which was spent on library books,
field trips, etc. You can sign up at the store in seconds.
Thank you for shopping at Smith's!
- Please save all your Boxtops For Education, empty printer
toner cartridges, and soup labels for our school. These turn
into real money. You can send them with your child to the
office. Thank you!
