SITE PLANNING FOR NEW SCHOOL FACILITIESThe final report from RTI/EDI is being used as the design document for subsequent facilities planning activities. Every effort will be made to adhere to the goals and requirements specified in this document. The full report, including a detailed site plan that meets the needs of the school, is available online. A copy may also be borrowed from the CVCS office. UPDATE: Following a six-month hiatus in late 2006, the Facilities Committee resumed regular meetings. The committee focused on two major projects for permanent facilities: the multipurpose "E Pod" and meeting the near-term needs for better classroom facilities. "E Pod" was viewed as a flagship project, to be built using sustainable, energy-efficient designs and materials, that would require fundraising. The plan for the higher-priority classrooms was to use high-quality factory-constructed modular buildings that would be aesthetically appealing and use "green" materials, but which would also be affordable enough to finance through the state's Public School Lease Assistance program and could be in place on a fairly short timescale. During 2007, a number of draft building designs, primarily for the classrooms, were developed by Kent Beierle of EDI Architecture. Please note these designs are not final, and may evolve before final approval.
At the end of 2007, the New Mexico
Public Schools Facilities Authority
(PSFA, part of the state government) ranked CVCS in 9th place in their
preliminary
school
facilities priorities list.
Following this excellent news, the committee worked very hard to prepare
plans that were submitted to PSFA for approval, and to make a presentation
to the NM Public Schools Capital Outlay Committee. In
July 2008, we were
notifed that the PSCOC had awarded CVCS $1 million to construct a new
multi-purpose building. Final preparations to begin construction in
late fall 2008 are now underway.
