CVCS Facilities PlanningAt right: a CVCS student's vision for our new school, by Kira T. (Click on the image to see a larger version) The New Mexico Public Schools Capital Outlay Committee has awarded Cottonwood Valley Charter School $1 million to construct a new multi-purpose building. $770,000 will be received directly, plus a $92,000 award from the state Charter School Fund; the remainder of the costs will be provided by CVCS as matching funds. Many thanks to our Facilities Committee members for their continuing hard work!
For many years, the Facilities Committee worked to obtain a good location for our school and provide adequate temporary facilities, but always the ultimate goal was to establish a permanent presence. As a result of these efforts, and thanks to Socorro County, CVCS was granted ownership of the land where its portable buildings are located. Formal planning for permanent facilities began in the fall of 2005. RTI/EDI of Albuquerque were contracted to develop the site plan, working with our community of parents, teachers, students, staff, and Socorro residents. Using requirements, functional information, and ideas provided by these groups, they produced designs and documents which can be used by architects and fundraisers to make our new school a reality. The final report from RTI/EDI, including a detailed site plan that meets the needs of the school, is available online or from the CVCS office. This section of the Web site will track information throughout the facilities planning process. Please review the information on campus designs, specifications, and continuing planning, and let us know what you think. In addition, notes are available from most Facilities Committee meetings. Your participation is a vital part of this project.
Please consider joining the Facilities Committee,
which meets regularly, generally on the second and
fourth Tuesdays each month at 5:00 p.m. in the CVCS multi-purpose room.
Or, you can participate in the public discussions that will be held, or send
comments or ideas to the
committee chair, either by email or by leaving a note at the school.
Thank you!
