Minutes of Fundraising Committee Meeting

Meeting Topics:

  1. Promoting ongoing fundraising efforts: The committee discussed ways of promoting our ongoing fundraising efforts, such as Web Marketplace, Earn and Learn, and Box Tops For Education. (This was in response to a suggestion by Ruth Milner.) Many parents remain unaware of these programs, but would probably use them if they knew the details. We decided to produce a one-page summary of the programs, which will serve to remind people of the programs and how they work. This material will be added to the CVCS web site, e-mailed to parents, and sent home as part of the fundraising campaign described in item 2 (below). In addition, we will produce refrigerator magnets with basic descriptions of the programs.

  2. A fundraising drive focused on increasing funds for field trips. The cost of field trips is always significant, and these costs have gone up dramatically due to rising fuel prices. We decided to have a targeted field trip fundraising campaign, which will include promoting the ongoing fundraising efforts mentioned in item 1, as well as a direct solicitation for donations. We will produce a donations form, with check boxes for where the person would like the money to go (e.g., field trips, library, etc.).

  3. Producing a tote/shopping bag that has small self-portraits of all of the CVCS students on it. Cathi showed us an example from a school in Colorado, which looks great. Ideally the bag will be available for sale this spring.

  4. Using the "Original Works" service, in which magnets, coffee mugs, shirts, etc. can be made using artwork produced by the children in class. Children will select their favorite piece of artwork to include in the program. This would be done in mid-fall, to allow parents to use the material for Christmas presents.
