CVCS ADMINISTRATOR MARY NUTT TO RETIREOn February 14, 2007, Cottonwood Valley Charter School Administrator Mary Nutt announced that she plans to retire at the end of the current school year. Ms. Nutt has made critical contributions to Cottonwood Valley's development for more than four years, taking the school from an exciting start-up to the stable institution it is today. Under Ms. Nutt's administration, the school added eighth grade and graduated its first three classes. The school has met Adequate Yearly Progress requirements every year, and this year, the school is at full capacity, with waiting lists in some grades. Ms. Nutt says she had considered retirement last year, but wanted to help CVCS begin its construction plans by supervising the demolition of the old hospital building on our property. Ms. Nutt's husband, Prof. Timothy Hankins, retired from active teaching at New Mexico Tech during the 2005-2006 academic year. Future plans include "lots of ocean sailing," according to Ms. Nutt. Richard Sonnenfeld, current Governing Council president, is chairing the search committee for a new administrator. Sonnenfeld said, "It's going to be very hard to replace Mary, but it's a great time for a new administrator to come on board at Cottonwood, as they will inherit a solid, financially healthy institution and can focus on continued development of educational quality and lead the drive for permanent buildings." Let us all wish Ms. Nutt smooth sailing on her planned adventures
on the high seas!
