Cottonwood Valley Charter School seeks to foster and encourage each child's positive, total development based upon his/her individual strengths, skills, and learning style. The School's goal is to offer families a public-school choice in which children are encouraged to be curious and creative, and each child is allowed to advance at his/her own pace.

CVCS opened in the fall of 2001, and provides a free public-school education for kindergarten through eighth grade. The educational leader of the school is the administrator. The administrator also oversees daily operations of the school, with assistance from the business manager and administrative assistant.

Final accountability for the school lies with a seven-member Governing Council. Governing Council (GC) members are elected by county voters and parents of CVCS students. The council is composed of parent, teacher, and community representatives.
