A. Enrollment Committee Report--Valerie Romney. Valerie reported that the lottery was advertised on KMXQ and held Monday, June 25th. Ten children were offered enrollment. No response yet. Refer anyone interested in the next lottery to Valerie via e-mail.
B. Facilities Committee Report Mary Dwyer.
1. The Facilities Committee met Monday, June 25th and turnout was disappointingly low. We will need a lot more parental involvement if the school is to open on time.
2. There are six jobs that will be separated out: sewer/water, electrical, sidewalks, fencing, foundations, and sealing the old hospital building. Each of these six jobs could cost as much as $5,000, which means sealed bids. Emil will prepare bid packages. We need to advertise for 10 days and then we can offer contracts. This timeline puts us into August. Volunteers can do prep work. Cleanup, landscaping, and bus lanes need to be addressed. Jeanne Gacanich suggested putting the specs in Monday's paper and that curbs be done professionally since special forms are needed. Volunteers could secure the hospital building (probably without a building permit). This can be done as soon as a lease is signed.
3. The Catholic school may be available. Religious schools have been used before as public schools, so that is not an issue. The physical plan is a good one. We have not signed a lease with Comark for the portable buildings, but we are getting down to the wire. Question: Is the hospital site on hold? Answer: No. The old hospital is our long-term goal, so if we are seen cleaning up the site and securing the building, so much the better.
C. Formation of Employee Policies. Tabled for two weeks. All ayes.
D. Governing Council Community Member Julia Calbert. Nothing to report.
E. Curriculum Committee Francis Deters. The curriculum committee met June 21 to discuss the results of the parent survey for math and science. The highest math rating was given to the SRA math curriculum & TERC. NSRC/STC rated highest in science. The curriculum committee met again June 25, at UNM to view reading/literature and social studies curriculum. We will have another curriculum fair soon.
F. Special Education Committee Francis Deters. Special Ed Committee met and discussed formation of a child ID process and items used in the PEP.
