WELCOME TO CVCS

Congratulations to CVCS students who participated in the regional Science Fair on March 6. Between them they brought home three first-place finishes, two second-place, and two special awards. Medalists will advance to the state Science Fair at NM Tech, April 9-10. Well done, everyone!

Volunteers are incredibly valuable to CVCS. Check out this article from a recent AeroJet newsletter about Kathy Spring, the grandmother of a CVCS student, who has contributed in many ways to our school. Thank you to Kathy and all our other volunteers – we couldn't succeed without you!

IF YOU'RE SHOPPING ONLINE, PLEASE REMEMBER TO GO THROUGH THE CVCS ONLINE MARKETPLACE TO BENEFIT OUR SCHOOL! When you use the marketplace links to make a purchase, CVCS will receive a donation, at no cost to you. An extensive list of merchants is available using easy-to-browse categories. Anyone can use these links, so please spread the word to friends and family. This is just one of several very easy ways for parents and friends of CVCS to help the school's fundraising efforts, with no extra cost to you; for details, please see the Fundraising Committee page. Thank you!

Per a flu decision chart issued October 12 by the NM Department of Public Health, if your child has flu-like symptoms, please keep them home until they have been free of fever (without medication) for 24 hours. Good hygiene practices include frequent hand-washing and covering coughs and sneezes. Thank you!

Parent involvement is crucial to the success of our children and our school. You can express your interest in volunteering at the school by filling out our Volunteer Opportunities form and returning it to the CVCS office. Thank you!

The CVCS administration, Governing Council, and Facilities Committee are actively working toward permanent facilities for our school, based on the site plan developed for us in 2006. This site plan, along with a detailed report on requirements and design considerations, is available online; a copy is also available in the CVCS office. We encourage everyone to review the plan. If you would like to contribute to this important effort, please contact the Chair of the Facilities Committee. The committee meets regularly throughout the year.

If you haven't already signed up, or renewed, to support CVCS through the Smith's Earn-N-Learn program, please do so soon! Anyone can sign up; annual renewal is required but takes only a minute at the Smith's cash registers. The program costs you nothing, and Smith's will donate a portion of your purchases to CVCS. To date we have received over $15,000, so this is an easy and effective way to help raise money for our school. Thank you!

The CVCS Parent Association normally meets on the first Wednesday of each month while school is in session. Please note there will be no meeting in March. The next meeting will be shifted to coincide with the potluck, Book Fair, and Core Knowledge Festival, and will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the school multi-purpose room. At this meeting, there will be a review of the proposed budget for next school year, followed by an update on construction of the new multi-purpose building. Notes and agenda information from some of the past Parent Association meetings are available.

The next regular Governing Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. in the school multi-purpose room. Draft agendas are generally posted in advance.
